DRAWING . New addition:- PAINTING on tablets and smartphones
Neither Apple nor Android makes it easy to track down good painting or drawing apps. Neither app store has a category for artists' apps. FX for photographers, colour boxes for kids or tools for giving a your grandma a moustache are the best they seem to offer.
Only a few months ago I listed the best of the artists'painting and drawing apps I knew of - but I blinked and when I looked again they had all changed.
Tablets are the latest thing, giving more screen space for your mobile easel. Android tablets and smartphones have entered the fray.
Currently I have an iPad 2, from Apple, and an HTC Flyer 7" tablet together with a Samsung Galaxy S2 phone, both with Google's Android operating system.
I do prefer the 7" tablet to the iPad. In spite of its being slightly lighter than the iPad 1, the iPad 2 is still heavy to carry around and hold for painting and drawing. The Flyer has a smaller screen, which seems to me just right. There are far fewer painting and drawing apps for Android than there are for my iPad or iPhone, but this is changing.
